Acai research began the moment the berry was discovered and bought back to the United States. Having said that, acai berry research was not required to prove its basic safety because indigenous Brazilian people had been eating it for centuries without ill effect. However, being the naturally suspicious beings that humans are, we automatically need proof of everything so the research went on.
Firstly we will deal with what has been done. Acai berry research has been performed on the berry itself and has made some surprising findings. For example, analysis of the berry found that it contained up to 30 times more antioxidants than red wine, which we all know can stave off aging and improve the immune system. It also found that it has omega 3 fatty acids, amino acids, copper, zinc, vitamin E, vitamin C and various other minerals in there too, all of which are essential in ensuring the health of every individual.
However, although basic acai research has been performed and so have individual laboratory tests performed by manufacturers, there has been no controlled study as of 2009. Basically, this means that none of the acai berry products have been subjected to acai research. Some would question this lack of acai research and suggest that it is significant but it can actually take years to perform.
The important element to note is that there have been no negatives found via acai berry research. Instead, many doctors actually advocate their consumption on health grounds. If doctors recommend them, despite a lack of acai research approval from the FDA or other bodies, then there has to be something to the properties they offer. This is why it is necessary to look at the full picture and not half of one!
